Michigan Baja Racing Team

Overview

The Michigan Baja Racing team is a student project team that designs and builds a single-seat off-road racecar for competition against other collegiate teams from all accross the globe. The team is composed of approximately 20 engineering students who design and manufacuture over 90% of the vehicle in our on-campus workshop.

Suspension

I served as the suspension lead in the 2019 season. My main goals were to improve the vehicle’s low speed turn radius and to strengthen the rear suspension links to ensure they would not fail.

Brakes

I was the brakes lead in the 2018 season and completely redesigned the system from the ground up to solve many issues we had on our previous vehicle.

Manufacturing

I developed many hands-on skills as a member of the baja team, as about 90% of the vehicle’s parts are manufactured in-house by the team members. With a new vehicle being built from scratch every year, there was a lot of manufacturing to be done.

Testing

I served as the testing lead in the 2018 season. I was responsible for operating the team’s data aquisition system to collect data for each subsystem as required. We performed a variety of component bench tests as well as full vehicle testing to ensure we had a good understanding of the entire system.
